School Polycrub and Sensory Garden Launch

On Friday 9th May, Soirbheas was delighted to attend the official opening of the Polycrub and Sensory Garden at Glen Urquhart Primary School- a fantastic community-led project that brings together sustainability, inclusion, and outdoor learning for local children.

This innovative initiative, led by the school’s Parent Council, has created a purpose-built space where pupils can learn about sustainable growing, composting, and food systems through hands-on experience. The Polycrub, constructed using recycled materials, will allow year-round cultivation of fruit and vegetables and will be integrated into the school’s sustainability and health curriculum.

Alongside the Polycrub, the new Sensory Garden has been designed as an accessible and calming outdoor space, using textured plants, colours, scents, and sounds to support children of all abilities—especially those with additional support needs. The project ensures that outdoor learning is inclusive and enriching for every pupil.

We are proud to have supported this project, which strongly aligns with Soirbheas’ strategic aims—particularly in promoting environmental sustainability and improving quality of life for vulnerable community members.

Jimmy Murray, Soirbheas’ Chair, speaking at the event
