Digital Support Success!
We’re excited to share the success of the recent digital support sessions for the communities of Strathglass and Glen Urquhart. The sessions were funded by Soirbheas, and delivered by the fantastic team (Kirsty and Kevin) at Red Chair Highland.
Red Chair Highland attended every Monday for four weeks at the end of October into November 2023, engaging with residents and providing individual device and digital support. The sessions covered crucial cyber resilience topics such as Online Safety, Scam Awareness, and Media Literacy. Attendees enjoyed a structured approach with the first hour dedicated to formal learning and the second hour offering personalised support.
An average of 6 residents attended each session in Cannich, and 11 in Drumnadrochit. The general agreement among attendees is that there is a need for more digital support in the area, highlighting the positive impact of the sessions. Attendees were given access to a free online basic digital skills training resource (Learn My Way) for continued learning at home.
As we celebrate this success, we look forward to exploring additional opportunities for digital empowerment within our community. The next block of four-weekly sessions are due to take place in Spring 2024, so watch this space!
In addition, we are actively seeking Digital Champions to provide extra support at the Spring sessions, and remain a point of contact within the community. You do not need to be a digital genius, but just know the basics of using digital devices. Red Chair Highland will provide free accredited Digital Champion training which takes approximately 8 hours to complete and can be done in your own time. It is very straightforward with videos and imagery. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please contact Kara at [email protected].
Thank you to Red Chair Highland for their commitment to enhancing digital literacy. If you would like to be on a mailing list to receive more information about the digital support sessions in Spring 2024, please contact Kara at [email protected].
