Celebrating 25 Years of Glenurquhart Centre
On Wednesday, 7th May 2025, Soirbheas was proud to join the Glenurquhart Centre in celebrating a remarkable milestone – 25 years of dedicated service to the local community in Drumnadrochit.
The Glenurquhart Centre plays a vital role in supporting older people and adults with additional needs by providing day services, social activities, and care that help individuals maintain their independence and wellbeing. Over the past quarter-century, the Centre has become a cherished hub, fostering connection, inclusion, and quality of life for many families across Glen Urquhart and beyond.
The 25th Anniversary Afternoon Tea brought together staff, volunteers, local residents, and partner organisations to share stories, enjoy delicious refreshments, and reflect on the Centre’s significant impact over the years.
As part of the celebrations, Soirbheas was delighted to support the Let Us Grow community garden project, led by GURCA and supported by Alex Davies, Bunloit Estate Manager. The garden is a heartfelt vision of the Let Us Grow volunteers, who want to create a welcoming outdoor space where the community can come together to grow, relax, and connect. Soirbheas’ Development Officer, Kara Scott, created an illustration for the proposed garden as part of our Development Support Days programme – a scheme that offers practical, tailored support by dedicating Soirbheas staff time to help local community groups and projects in Glen Urquhart and Strathglass.
Development Support Days are designed to provide focused assistance for community-led projects that meet Soirbheas’ funding criteria. These support days may include help with project planning, communications, event organisation, or developing new services and venues. The amount of support is tailored to each project’s needs, ranging from a few days for smaller initiatives to extended support for larger, more complex undertakings.
The illustration created during these support days is now proudly displayed at the Centre and helps visualise the exciting plans for the Let Us Grow garden, which will offer a welcoming outdoor space for community members to gather, grow, and connect.
If you have a community project in Glen Urquhart or Strathglass that could benefit from practical support, please get in touch with Soirbheas to discuss how Development Support Days could help bring your ideas to life.
