Glen Urquhart and Strathglass are becoming greener. Soirbheas is a community charity for the two glens partnering with a local family, via their company Corrimony Energy, in a new wind farm of five turbines to be located as shown below and operational from late 2012. The community will own one turbine and the money generated will put the "Power in our Hands."
Don't let our community lose the financial rewards that we could take advantage of by taking over one of the five wind turbines being built.
Don't miss the chance to tell us where YOU think the money the community would earn should go - projects and areas that YOU care most about
Timeline: Planning permission was granted in November 2010 and a grid connection has been secured. Construction of the road to the site is due to start in Q3 2011 with the turbines being erected a year later and the wind farm is due to be operational by the end of 2012.
Soirbheas’ role: The community has the opportunity to own one turbine but must raise the funding to purchase it by the end of 2011. The intention is to raise the money from the bank and grant funding. The money made from the power generated by the turbine would go to the community
Your role: We need involvement from residents - NOT money. We would like people in the community to become members of the charity (no financial investment required) so that you can influence how Soirbheas spends the money in the area. There are also opportunities to help in the development of the project and gain experience in areas of activity such as research, community engagement, and publishing.
