The communities have a history of self-reliance. It's not a place where local people wait around for help. In recent times, local effort has seen a Care Centre developed and owned by the community. Sports provision is strong, with shinty the main game. Nursery places for children are a focus, and the eye is to the future and what we need to do to keep our community healthy and our glens truly sustainable.
There are big issues facing Glen Urquhart and Strathglass in the coming decade alone. An increasingly aging population will need more care if people are to enjoy independent supported living in the glens. Young people need to be able to live in affordable housing and find work locally. Energy sustainability and maintaining our world class environment are clear priorities. Local action can be multiplied if we have a secure stream of income coming from our wind turbine.
Working together it should be possible to provide local care that people need at different stages in their lives. Whether that's nursery or after school provision or elderly homecare, topping-up statutory provision is a priority for us.
Sustaining ourselves environmentally is essential. People visit Drumadrochit and Cannich from all over the world. We want to show we can use our own renewable resources wisely and well.
The opportunity to earn money for at least 25 years from a renewable energy resource here will ensure the wider community organisations can flourish. Our community provision will increase and our area will be a resilient, attractive and responsible place to live and work.
