Call for affordable broadband by SCVO

The Scottish Government will shortly make an investment of £400-£600 million to meet its commitment to delivering 100% superfast broadband coverage by 2021. While this is necessary, SCVO believe that more needs to be done to ensure home internet access remains affordable for everyone, and are calling on:

• More internet providers to develop social tariffs that provide a basic broadband service to those on low incomes.

• Those working to tackle poverty and inequality to recognise the savings that can be made by being online, and to ensure people can easily apply for social tariffs.

• Providers and housing associations to work together to provide low cost internet access to tenants
